What NOL8 rewrites
Reading is only half of it.
A match can also change the payload while it is still moving: redact a field, mask a value or send the request somewhere else.
The rewrite happens in the same pass as the read, on the engine, before the model or the tool sees the payload. There is no second read and nothing to reconcile afterwards.
Both directions, one plane.
NOL8 bookends the workload. What goes in is checked before the model sees it; what comes out is checked before it goes anywhere. An audit asks about the way out. Most stacks only check the way in.
